Greg GulerThat being said, we are very happy to have Greg Guler, an artist and lead character designer on Gargoyles join us in Thom’s place. Thanks very much to Greg Weisman for helping us invite Greg to CONvergence 2014 at the last minute.

Harisen Daiko returns for its second year on the CONvergence Mainstage! If you missed last year’s performance you had likely left the hotel altogether or were perhaps dead – because our beat carried all the way to the Plaza Tower and into many a panel. If you heard us without actually seeing the performance, you won’t want to miss this year’s new and returning pieces, and a new SciFi Medley.

Harisen Daiko, Taiko Drummers - 7/7/13

We are a diverse group of players with over a century of combined Taiko playing experience. Seeking cultural connection, chasing inspiration, and reveling in the energy that can only be found when you and about a dozen of your friends get together to hit things with sticks…usually drums. Harisen Daiko have come together for one purpose and one purpose only. To share our obsessive love of Japanese Taiko drumming with other people who obsessively love things.

Hello and welcome to another great year of CONvergence Programming!

For the past several months, we’ve been compiling all the great ideas we’ve received and writing descriptions for those panels. Now it is time to ask you to sign up for them. Here’s how it works…read carefully because IT’S ALL DIFFERENT THIS YEAR.

Start at the panel site:

http://panels.convergence-con.org

(Please note that the drop down menu allows you to view different keywords – you cannot see all of the panels at once). You can view the panels by selecting a keyword. Note that many panels are tagged with multiple keywords, so the same panel may appear in different lists. Also, panels that are locked are not shown.

READ THE STUFF AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PAGE.

Then,

READ THE STUFF AT THE END.

We mean that. Stuff has changed. After you’ve read that, you sign up for the panels by checking the boxes next to the panels that you would like to be on. Please check no more than eight. Then, go to the bottom and fill in the information. The fields are pretty self-explanatory, but please be aware that your email address is used to find you in our contacts database. If you enter a different email address from last year, it won’t link to your history.

If you have questions, comments, or something that doesn’t fit in the form (like telling us your email address changed), please send them to us at programming@convergence-con.org. HOWEVER, any email messages that include panel signups will be returned, so please sign up using the form and don’t include that in the email message.

As we all know CONvergence is growing and that at times there will be change. One of the changes this year was music at the convention. We know that music is important to the community and we want to make sure to work out the best use of space for all involved.

The plan as stated earlier on the website was to move music under two departments. Smaller acts into programming and larger acts onto the mainstage, however as you know things rarely go as planned. Since the announcement programming has lost the event space at the Sheraton Bloomington (former Sofitel) due to remodeling and mainstage has given three time slots to guests for Marina Sirtis and the other guests from Gargoyles.

As a result Programming only has limited space for groups that can work in our traditional programming rooms with minimal technical support and mainstage only has one time slot (Thursday at 11:30PM) available.

If you think your group will work within the programming parameters please contact programming@convergence-con.org.

If you feel your group would work on mainstage or you would like to make a suggestion contact mainstage@convergence-con.org.

CONvergence 2014 Gaming Department seeks interested, fun-loving GMs to run game events in our 22nd floor Gaming Space at this year’s convention (July 3-6, 2014)! Please note that hours spent preparing and running your game count as volunteer hours for the convention. Convention registration is required to run a game, so you’ll want to get your registration in as soon as possible if you haven’t already.

If you’re interested in running a game, please e-mail gaming@convergence-con.org with your contact info and the basic information* about your game – we’ll work with you to find a day / time slot for your game, and get you listed in our schedule. Table spaces are booked on a first come / first served basis, so the sooner you get us your request, the better chance you have of getting the day and time you prefer!

This year’s Convention Theme is Urban Fantasy – games that fit the theme are encouraged (ex.: The Dresden Files, White Wolf’s “World of Darkness”, d20 Modern games, etc.), but all games are welcome! We look forward to working with all of you!

*Basic game info includes: Type of game (board, card, RPG); Title, Game system, Expected approximate duration of the game, Appropriate ages, Expected player experience level, and Brief content summary.
