CONvergence 2022: Your Reality May Vary starts on Thursday in downtown Minneapolis, MN and those of us without a Transporter or a Warp Drive may need to rely on overland travel.
Many CONvergence members will be using Metro Transit to get to the con. If you are planning on taking a bus or a train, head over to the Bus and Train page.
Of course, some people will be driving to the convention and parking Downtown.
If you want to avoid flying right through a star or bouncing too close to a supernova, here is a list of current and upcoming road construction projects in the Twin Cities Metro area that may impede, obstruct, or otherwise complicate your travel to and from CONvergence.
MNDOT Closures and Detours

- 13th Ave S southbound: Bridge closed.
At 8th Street in Minneapolis. The bridge is closed. Follow the detour signs. Until September 23, 2022 at about 6:00PM CDT. Mon, May 23 through mid-September The bridge from downtown Minneapolis (8th St.) to SB Hiawatha Ave. is closed Detour: Park Ave. to 4th St. to SB I-94 to SB I-35W to EB Hwy 62 to Hiawatha Ave. For Detour Map: Click Here
- I-35W northbound: Road construction.
I-35W northbound: Road construction. Between Exit 13: 46th Street and Exit 14: East 36th Street (near Minneapolis). Road construction work is in progress. A lane is closed. Until October 31, 2023 at about 7:00PM CDT. The right lane is closed for construction of 6 underground storm water storage tanks between 42nd St. and 40th St. in South Minneapolis. - I-35W northbound: Right lane of exit ramp closed.
At Exit 17C ramp to 3rd St / U of M. The right lane of the exit ramp is closed. Road construction work is in progress.
- I-35W: Roadway reduced to two lanes.
Between Exit 22: Industrial Boulevard and MN 280 (Lauderdale). The roadway is reduced to two lanes. Until Thursday, at about 6:00AM CDT. Grading & paving.
- I-35W northbound: Road construction.
Between Exit 13: 46th Street and Exit 14: East 36th Street (near Minneapolis). Road construction work is in progress. A lane is closed. Until October 31, 2023 at about 7:00PM CDT. Comment: The right lane is closed for construction of 6 underground storm water storage tanks between 42nd St. and 40th St. in South Minneapolis. For additional information: Click Here
- I-35W northbound: Roadway reduced to three lanes.
Between Exit 22: Industrial Boulevard and MN 280 (Lauderdale). The roadway is reduced to three lanes. The right two lanes are closed north of Industrial Blvd through the start of the exit ramp to Hwy 36 for cement wall failure.
- I-35W southbound: Exit ramp closed.
At Entrance ramp from 3rd St / Washington Ave. The exit ramp is closed. Follow the detour signs. Until September 23, 2022 at about 6:00PM CDT. Mon, May 23 through mid-September The ramp from SB I-35W to SB Hiawatha Ave. is closed Detour: WB I-94 to SB I-35W to EB Hwy 62. For detour map: Click Here
- MN 55 eastbound: Road closed.
Between 13th Avenue South and East 26th Street (Minneapolis). The road is closed. Road construction work is in progress. Follow the detour signs. Until September 23, 2022 at about 6:00PM CDT. - MN 55 in both directions: Road closed.
Between Mendota Heights Road and Blue Gentian Road (Mendota Heights). The road is closed. Bridge construction work is in progress. Follow the detour signs. Until August 14, 2022 at about 6:00PM CDT
- MN 65 in both directions: Bridge closed.
Between South 1st Street and Southeast 2nd Street (near Minneapolis). The bridge is closed. Bridge construction work is in progress. Follow the detour signs. Until November 18, 2022 at about 6:00PM CDT. - I-94 westbound: Entrance ramp closed.
At Entrance ramp from 3rd St. The entrance ramp is closed. Follow the detour signs. Until August 24, 2022 at about 5:00AM CDT. Mon, July 25 through Fri, Sept. 2 The ramp from N 3rd St. to WB I-94 is closed Detour: 2nd Ave. N to Washington Ave. to WB 94 ramp at N 22nd Ave. For more information: Click Here
- I-94 eastbound: Exit ramp closed.
At Exit 234A ramp to MN 55 / Hiawatha Ave. The exit ramp is closed. Follow the detour signs. Until September 23, 2022 at about 6:00PM CDT. Mon, May 23 through mid-September The ramp from EB I-94 to SB Hiawatha Ave. is closed Detour: EB I-94 to 26th St. to Franklin Ave. to Bloomington Ave. to 24th St. to Cedar Ave. to Hiawatha Ave. For detour map: Click Here
- Hiawatha Ave westbound: Exit ramp closed.
Between 16th Ave S and S 7th St in Minneapolis. The exit ramp is closed. Consider using an alternate route. Until September 30, 2022 at about 11:59PM CDT. Exit ramp closed: Hiawatha Ave. to 7th St/13th Ave. Detour: Use Lake Street to Park Avenue to 8th Street. For more information: Click Here
- MN 62 eastbound: Road closed.
Between MN 5 and MN 13 (Mendota). The road is closed. Look out for construction work. Until Friday, at about 5:00PM CDT.
- MN 62 in both directions: Roadway reduced to one lane.
Between Penn Avenue South (Richfield) and I-494 (Sunfish Lake). The roadway is reduced to one lane. Road maintenance work is in progress. From 7:00PM CDT to 6:00AM CDT on weekdays and Saturday. Until Saturday, at about 6:00AM CDT. Removal and Install of Overhead Signs.
- MN 280: Roadway reduced to one lane.
Between Broadway Avenue and I-35W (Lauderdale). The roadway is reduced to one lane. Until August 29, 2022 at about 5:00PM CDT. Repair RSS wall. From CR. B to TH 36/35W.
Metro Transit Closures and Detours
If you are a regular or semi-regular Metro Transit rider, you will also want to check the Rider Alerts feed for closures and detours. The best way to do this is the Rider Alerts feed on the Metro Transit website.
Of note during CONvergence 2022:
- METRO Blue Line service on the south end is unavailable due to required maintenance. Replacement bus service is currently operating between Mall of America and Airport-Terminal 2 stations.
