The CONvergence Decor Team Needs Your Help!
Each year, CONvergence is dressed with a theme. In the areas around Main Stage and CONvergence Central, various scenic elements are fabricated to fit the theme, not the least of which includes a doorway facade over the Main Stage entrance. Who could forget Star Trek's Guardian of Forever, Superman's Fortress of Solitude, or the Creepy Crypt? How about the two floor-to-ceiling Connies that flank the Main Stage? All of these decorations are designed, built, and installed especially for each CONvergence by the Decor Team.
2009 has brought us some new challenges, and you can help! The Decor team desperately needs a shop space to construct this year's Main Stage facade and other decorations. At a bare minimum, the shop needs:
- A usable footprint of 16' x 24' (roughly the size of an empty 3-car garage)
- 8' high ceilings or better.
- Doorways big enough to get large scenery in and out of. (A garage door or loading dock works best).
- Several circuits of 120VAC power.
- Ample lighting
- Access to a slop sink (a place where we can clean paint brushes)
- Locking doors (so we can safely leave expensive tools there overnight)
- 24hr access. (We'll be working mostly evenings and weekends, but there will likely be a couple round-the-clock days!)
- Located close to the Bloomington Sheraton. This is the most ideal area for the Decor team.
We're desperate for a space where we can create these decorations for CONvergence, and time is running out! If you or anyone you know is willing to donate a space to this great cause, please contact the Decor team at decor@convergence-con.org.
